Film Description
Set in the mid-90’s, None Will Sleep is the story of Giacomo “Moe” DiVincenzo, a gifted mechanic with dreams of becoming a professional operatic tenor. Moe works at his father’s classic car auto shop, and while clients come for the family’s restoration skills, they stay to listen to Moe’s arias as he works. As Moe yearns to pursue his talent, he’s grounded by family ties and the threat of disturbing the extended family’s money laundering scheme running through the business.
Inspiration
I adore classical music, but had never really delved into the world of opera until I heard “Nessun Dorma” from Puccini’s Turandot. The first time I heard it, I was immediately hooked by its bravado, swelling melodies, epic passion, and romance. I remember it vividly. I was watching a pivotal scene in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, where Ethan Hunt has to pick off assailants with a sniper rifle that’s built inside of a flute. If you’re a fan of opera, you probably hate me now. There’s nothing I can do about that. But like a sniper inside a flute, I know what it’s like to be torn between two things I love at once. And I am trying to do something about that.
